God’s desire for you and me is more than just salvation. It is more than just getting us into heaven. God loves you the way you are, but He refuses to leave you that way. He wants to transform our lives to be like Jesus.
The Bible is all about our personal transformation into the person God has created us to be. He is constantly trying to reveal those areas to us. The question is: Will we eagerly embrace the good, pleasing, and perfect change He desires for us? We might not literally kick and scream, but how often do we resist the change God is trying to show us?
Thom Rainer, in his book Anatomy of a Revived Church, talks about an article published by Fast Company. It was titled Change or Die. The central thesis was this: “…If given a choice between life and death, most people and leaders choose death if life requires substantive change.” (p3)
He goes on to support that premise by stating that “Among more than 1.5 million patients who undergo heart bypass surgery each year, a significant number of them can be restored to full health with lifestyle changes in their eating and exercise habits. But 90% do not make any changes. They are choosing to die.” (p.3)
What a sobering thought! Spiritually, it is much the same. We can experience God’s good, perfect, and pleasing will (Romans 12:2) when we eagerly embrace the desired change He is trying to show us. Accepting God’s desired change for us leads us toward the person He desires us to become. At the same time, resisting His desired change leads us away from the person He desires us to be.
Do you want to thrive spiritually? You can! The process is simple yet difficult. In fact, embracing change is one of the most difficult things there is, but it is oh so worth it! The desire for comfort and convenience can easily motivate so much of what we do that we can easily dismiss the change God wants to bring. But if we will seek God’s change, we will find it. Then, if we eagerly embrace God’s desired change for us, we will experience the good, perfect, and pleasing that God has waiting!
